When driving a Mazda car, safety is always a priority. Since technology and occupant safety go hand in hand, the Hiroshima-based automaker innovates and goes the extra mile. That’s why Mazda is integrating the full range of i-Activsense technologies into its vehicles, with priority now given to cyclists and pedestrians.

Let’s find out more about advanced driving assistance technologies and the latest new features.

What Are i-Activsense Technologies?

Before we present the new driver assistance technologies that are already in the 2024 vehicles, it would be wise to explain what i-Activsense technologies are, as they are often unknown.

At Mazda, there is a set of driving assistance technologies known as i-Activsense. These technologies bring together several advanced features to help you prevent accidents and reduce their severity. The range includes:

  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Front obstruction warning
  • Traffic Jam Assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Distance evaluation system
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Hill start assist
  • And much more!

Although the technologies included vary from one model to another, you can count on a large number of driving aids on every Mazda vehicle.

For example, the all-new 2024 Mazda CX-5 will be able to count, in addition to the previous technologies, on an enhanced Intelligent City Brake Assist system in reverse, an alert-vigilance system and a 360 screen.

“The Intelligent City Brake Assist system assists the driver by means of sensors located at the front and rear, while the 360 screen makes use of similar sensors, offering a complete view of what’s around the vehicle.”

Improvements such as these and many others help the drivers in a multitude of ways, so that they are more alert and responsive when required.

Cyclist and Pedestrian Safety Above All!

As we’ve just seen, Mazda technology is not only an essential quality, but also a corporate social responsibility.

“At Mazda, one of our main objectives is to create a safe society, free of road accidents.”

In 2021, according to Transport Canada’s National Collision Database, there were 324 accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists. While efforts are being made to reduce this number, Mazda wants to do its part to ensure that all road users are safe.

Today, the Japanese automaker is well aware that seatbelts, airbags and advanced braking systems have helped reduce deaths and injuries to vehicle occupants. However, other technologies must also help to do the same for other road users.

To itsi-Activsense technology package, Mazda now adds Traffic Sign Recognition, which aims to protect cyclists and pedestrians by respecting the speed limit in school and urban zones, for example.

Moreover, with pedestrian and cyclist detection, drivers are now alerted to a potential cyclist or pedestrian in their path. If this technology is useful in linear situations, it becomes even more so on sharp curves, or in urban areas where visibility may be impaired.

In short, based on GPS data from pedestrians and cyclists, this technology can already warn the driver of a 2024 Mazda CX-5 or another vehicle in the range of the presence of these road users on your route. This will enable them to take extra care, and the technology will keep them alert.

Mazda Safety

The many driving assistance technologies complement the driver, helping to avoid many incidents – and even accidents! Thei-Activsense package includes a number of standard systems that ensure the safety not only of occupants, but increasingly of road users too!

Safety for all is a top priority at Mazda. This is reflected in both the solid design of its vehicles and the addition of advanced driver assistance technologies.
